What is the difference between this health consultation and primary care ? Our health consultation is for those who want to learn how to manage their conditions through lifestyle and behavioral changes or want more health education. We are a consultant, we do not do initial diagnosis or urgent visits. Once you have had an initial visit with traditional health provider (i.e. primary care, urgent, specialty) , we can help. We recommend everyone have a separate primary care physician to refer you for appropriate screenings including mammogram, colonoscopy , flu shots, HIV etc .
What is a holistic consultation? Holistic means to consider the whole person , including mind, body and spirit. This also means the treatment approach is whole, instead of focusing only medication or procedures . We discuss diet, supplements, recommended exercises and other lifestyle changes to improve your overall health. Cost and do you take my insurance? All consultations are a flat fee of $90, (lowered to $60 for 6 months during COVID due to economic hardships). Currently you can pay by credit card ,debit card or cash (in person) . Clients will receive email invoice prior to visit. Currently we do not take any private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. Our services such as general health counseling are not covered by private and public health insurance.
What is the benefit? The main benefit is for individuals and families to have a better understanding of their health and how to improve it. The goals of services include to decrease or delay complications, reduce hospitalizations, improve function, reduce symptom exacerbation and improve overall health.
How to do an online virtual ( video ) visit? When you schedule an appointment for a video visit , you will be given a link to use at the scheduled time of your visit. You get the same amount of time for consultation and the provider will share handouts and education materials through the visit and email. We strongly recommend that clients use a tablet, laptop or computer during their visit in an area that is well-lit, private and has good wifi service.
Do you prescribe medications? We generally avoid prescribing, however, for regular clients we can renew medications. We will also provide information on the use of natural ingredients through other means such as aromatherapy or topical treatments. We can provide medical evaluation for Medical Marijuana ( see below). We DO NOT encourage clients to stop their prescribed medication. Through improved diet and lifestyle, we hope clients will need less medication, but this can only be done in advisement with your primary care physician.
Medical Marijuana Medical cannabis can have a therapeutic benefit. It is not however a "magic green bullet" that can treat all things. Currently we only take new patients for medical marijuana certification, if they meet following criteria:
Neurological condition: Such as Parkinson's, spinal cord injury, spinal stenosis, neuropathy,
Must have a referral from their Primary doctor. Referrals from urgent care , ER or telemedicine are not accepted
Do you offer second opinions? Yes. Health care is influenced by outside factors including bias, insurance measures, incentives, pharmaceutical or biotech companies. In addition, medical decisions affecting African American, immigrant, LGBTQ or disabled patients are more likely to be impacted by unconscious bias. Dr Isable can discuss a medical diagnosis or treatment through a different, objective perspective using evidence based medicine and cultural competent lens. *Health empowerment for all has no obligations with pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies, insurances or federal grants.
How frequently do I have to come? The number of visits is totally optional. Most clients will learn how to better manage their health in 3-4 consultations. The purpose is to learn , so you become empowered and not be dependent on continuously using our services. What to bring and expect. Bring Honesty. To gain the most out of the session, clients should be honest about their behaviors and issues. This includes being honest about eating habits, sexual behaviors, physical activity etc. You can bring medications you take including vitamins and supplements, any labs test results that may be helpful.
